Mary
A. Slade focuses her practice in the areas of title insurance,
real estate law and representation of financial institutions
in banking law, bankruptcy and creditors' rights.
Prior to joining Plunkett
Cooney, Ms. Slade worked for five years as the Vice
President, Regional Claims Counsel for Stewart Title
Guaranty Company in Virginia where she investigated
claims and assisted in managing class actions, transaction
underwriting, market conduct exams, fraud and white-collar
crime investigations, e-discovery compliance and all
facets of direct litigation in 16 states and the District
of Columbia.
Ms. Slades previous
work experience also includes four years as Associate
Regional Claims Counsel for Chicago Title Insurance
Company, where she supervised claims personnel and investigations
in Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia
and western Pennsylvania. She handled complex commercial
and residential development underwriting and claims,
as well as white collar-crime investigations in Indiana.
In addition, Ms. Slade
represents financial institutions in the areas of commercial
loan workouts, foreclosures and bankruptcy.
A graduate of Indiana
University School of Law, Ms. Slade is a member of several
professional organizations, including the Indiana Land
Title Association, where she previously served as the
group's education chair.

- Strategic responsibility
for major insurance litigation involving bad faith,
class actions, defalcations, insured closings and
white collar crime
- Represent lending
institutions, title insurers and their insured parties
in affordable housing, bankruptcy, lien priority,
fraud, access, railroad and land use disputes
- Concentrated experience
in defalcations, bankruptcy, embezzlements, white
collar crime investigation, prosecution (former deputy
prosecuting attorney in Marion County, Indianapolis,
Indiana) and fraud analysis
- Transactional counsel
for due diligence, escrow/closing clearance and underwriting
with acquisitions, residential subdivision ventures,
complex leases, mixed use development and multi-site
commercial projects. Transactional work has included,
but not limited to, big box retailers, casinos, steel
plants, gas stations, pharmacies and development projects
with riparian issues
- Represents lending
institutions, title insurers and their insured parties
involving failed developments, foreclosure litigation,
bankruptcy, loan workouts and related construction
lien issues with active construction sites
- Counsel for and advisor
of title insurers as to market conduct exams, federal
Truth in Lending Act litigation, rate class actions,
loss recovery and other federal and/or state regulatory
concerns
- Routinely provides
legal advice and seminar presentations to attorneys
and title insurance professionals regarding real estate
transactions, litigation, loss mitigation and recovery,
best practices, settlement practices and claim liability
