partner in the firms Bloomfield Hills office, Leslie
Stein focuses her practice in the areas of business bankruptcy,
reorganization and workouts with an emphasis on secured
creditor representation, loan transactions, and mergers
and acquisitions.
Nominated as a Michigan
Super Lawyer in the area of bankruptcy/creditors' rights
by Super Lawyers Magazine since 2006, Ms. Stein represents
clients in the commercial and real estate lending arenas.
Prior to joining the firm, she managed the bankruptcy/workout
and commercial litigation functions for a national financial
institution.
A frequent lecturer
and author on bankruptcy law, Ms. Stein is a member
of the State of Michigan and the American, Federal and
Detroit Metropolitan bar associations. She is also a
member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the
Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, where she served
as a past Director at Large and Treasurer.
Representative
Client Work
- Represented national
and community banks in numerous loan workout, deed
in lieu and foreclosure situations involving apartment
buildings, and manufacturing businesses partially
built subdivisions and condominium developments
- Represented tier
two auto suppliers and obtained complete and early
payment of pre-petition debt in several tier one supplier
bankruptcies
- Represented privately
held multinational business in the negotiation and
documentation of $300 million syndicated line of credit
- Represented tier
two suppliers in the GM and Chrysler bankruptcy cases,
obtaining early payment of pre-petition debt and continuing
supply contracts for clients
- Represented a bank
in a workout matter involving defaults on an existing
$18 million construction loan, transitioning to a
loan to an operating senior living community with
multiple levels of care (independent senior living,
assisted living, nursing home and hospice care at
a single site)
- Successfully negotiated
resolution of multiple, complex construction lien
foreclosure actions on behalf of banks and other mortgage
lenders
- Successfully negotiated
dismissal and favorable settlements of preference
lawsuits for secured and unsecured creditors (landlords,
attorneys, automotive suppliers, banks, private lenders)
in regional and national bankruptcy cases
- Represented national
and community banks in credit exits leading to payment
in full
- Discovered frauds
by two borrowers leading to indictment and conviction
of one of the borrowers and an ongoing FBI investigation
of the other
